| | | Laptop Limitations? Had a visit to my cousin Angela yesterday and during chat realised I had'nt told her we have a website! When we went to boot up her laptop our website appeared in layout but no pics and colour in the background (I've had a desktop computer since 1999 - but no experience whatsoever of laptops and their capabilities) and I'm wondering why stuff would not display? Is that the laptop does not have enough capability/memory to display large items? Surely not - otherwise why would folk use them if you can't see the things you want to deal with - or is that a laptop is only big enough to deal with 'office-type' stuff and email? Or will there be something set that needs unsetting or vice versa on her laptop to allow pics to be displayed? I can see my website here at home and hope that it is viewable to everyone else and isn't actually displaying like that for everyone? I dunno - I can't quite believe either of my assumptions are right but if anyone does know the answer it would stop me scratching my head!!

| | | Re: Laptop Limitations? Hi Pauline, i would suspect that it is that particular laptop and its software setup that is the problem,
i use both a laptop and desktop and all websites appear the same on both, albeit smaller on the laptops smaller screen, but other than that there is no difference, at least in my experience,

The only computer I have is a laptop and your site displays fine on it as does mine.
My laptop does all a desktop computer would do. Runs all my photo editing programmes, in fact behaves exactly as a desktop would do. Unless the laptop in question is very under specced it should be capable of doing everything a desktop can do.
The spec on some laptops nowadays is at least as good as desktops so why it won't display your website is a mystery to me. Can't remember without looking at settings but you used to be able to set Internet explorer to display text without the photos that's assuming Internet explorer is the web browser being used. Apart from that I've no idea. |

| | | Re: Laptop Limitations? Hi PMG,
THe chances are that on your cousin's laptop, the web browser application isn't set up correctly to show the pictures.
If the web browser is Microsoft Internet Explorer (a recent version) then it can be reconfigured easily by going to Tools (the cog wheel icon in the IE application), then selecting Internet Options, and then the Advanced tab.
Scroll down to the Multimedia section, then see if the 'Show Pictures' checkbox is checked ... if not click in the box to select it.
Click the 'OK' button to exit the Internet Options dialog box ... then re-enter the URL for your web page in the address bar.
If your cousin is using another web brower, let us know what it is and we can provide alternative instructions for that. |

| | | Re: Laptop Limitations? Just had a look at the settings for Internet explorer and if you look under Tools Internet Options there is a box that should be ticked to allow Internet Explorer to display pictures.
However if it displays pictures on other websites and it's just yours that it doesn't Pauline this won't be the problem, again assuming that Internet explorer is the web browser used. |

| | Re: Laptop Limitations? Hello pmg, you do not say how old the laptop is, It may be that there is a problem with the on board graphics system or the owner will need to download software such as adobe flash player or some other software that is entirely free of charge over the internet, to find out just ask google why you have a problem doing what ever, it is as simple as that, it will come up with a load of options just read through them, good luck, aland.
PS, software that is free of charge is called [freeware]. |

| | | Re: Laptop Limitations? I take it you are referring to your Pauline and Ian Wildlife Images site?
If so, then JavaScript needs to be enabled to use it (if I turn off JavaScript I can't see any pictures but the text and background shows up).
Do you know what browser are you using?
Have a look at this: https://www.google.com/adsense/suppo...n&answer=12654 |
