Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions regarding very cheap and portable sound recording equipment for wildlife. I have lost about 75% of my hearing and such equipment would be of use to me so that I can have a listen with headphones when I get home.
I reason I like the Fuji digicams is their video and sound recording abilities however some a little better would be a help. |

I think minidisks can give about 40 minutes recording time a lot of bat workers use them

The minidisks that I use - which are pretty standard, I think - give 80 mins, and the recorders can be picked up on ebay for £30.00 or so. They are fairly robust, easy to use, and the sound quality is very good when taken from a Bat Detector, but I've no idea what it's like for bird song etc from a good conventional mic. I'd expect it to be good though, with a good quality mic as well.
There are a couple of high quality flash card based recorders that have come out recently such as this from Alana. They have several good features, but they are still quite a bit more expensive. | | |
