Well after six weeks on order my Sigma lens has arrived, and I am well impressed with it. It is a huge monster which needs controlling   It is quite heavy, a lot heavier than I expected, but who cares, I don't. I have taken a couple of shots from my hide resting on a bean bag, the first time I poked it out of the hide I scared away a magpie who must have thought I had a big gun Anyway, I am well impressed with the shots I have taken so far, I am going to Pennington Flash tomorrow after work to try it out properly, weather permitting.
Thanks to all who gave me advice on which lens to get

Crikey. Barbara with a big lens. Watch out lads I can see someone with Barbaras talent soon submitting more excellent shots of the telephoto variety

Yep, Barbara's got the Bigma now. No doubt you'll go straight out and get superb shots.
I know I didn't. It took me a week or two to get used to handling it.  |

I recently got a more sturdier tripod as well to accommodate it.

It took me a week or two to get used to handling it. | Well I'm sorry to have to say this Graham but I did take a nice shot of a coal tit but unfortunately, the fat feeder was behind him spoiling the shot, but I must say I was well ipmressed with the quality of the shot and detail. And it's great to be able to zoom in on further away objects in fact, I'm sure I just spotted your posh bird stand ....................................with a Jay sat on it and you were not in the garden to capture it..............awwwwww what a shame |

Great news on the lens Barbara, sure it won't be long before you manage to tame it and produce some excellent shots. Look forward to seeing some of them
