| | | Bargains I have recently taken up fly fishing and am astonished at just how reasonbaly priced some of the clothing aimed at fishermen is.
I have paid what would have cost me double for wet weather gear if it were aimed at hill walkers or purchased in 'pursuits' shops.
Some of the days that I have tested this gear have been quite extreme and the quality is superb
I guess it is a competetive market and anglers wont pay the inflated prices that pursuits branded companies demand.
If you want a bargain pick up a copy of one of the angling magazines - they all have decent catalogue supplements.

| | | Re: Bargains Thanks for the tip Boddie. I will do just that, though the only bit of outdoor kit at the moment I really need is a pair of waders, so I do need to have a look in the mags anyway!
Cheers

| | | Re: Bargains Jez, I picked up a pair of waders for less than a tenner on Ebay last year. I needed them so that I could get in my wildlife pond and make it less wild so that the wildlife could actually breathe in there! |

I have traipsed through every site in the UK for a decent pair of Danner waterproof boots but nobody carries stock. They all say they will have to order them in which takes weeks. High street retailers often say "there's nothing as good as being able to try them before you buy" but as I see it if you can't walk out with them on your feet then the on-line retailers will win. In the end I had to order from the States which is a ridiculous situation given our climate lately. |

I agree, but with a caution - I have a geologic jacket (after seeing
a fellow WABer snug in one at Salthouse last year), and yes it was
much cheaper than many well known walking names, and it is
fantatic weather protection, but zero breathability.
So its fine for standing around, sitting in hides, but useless for
significant walking (though would be better if I was not so fat
and overweight ).
I also bought a fisherman's sleeping bag. Really warm and [b]not[b]
not tapered like all the camping shops ones. |

| | | Re: Bargains Not that its much use to a lot of you unless you do a lot of beach or boat fishing but i've just bought a new floatation suit from one of the ads in sea angler magazine it was almost the 1/2 price of my old one its a bit bulky but its warm and they really do as they say i tested my old fladden one by jumping in the sea i got some odd looks though lol

| | | Re: Bargains I get all my clothing gear from Angling shops Boddie, camouflage jackets are much cheaper as are the little tents that can double as a hide. Good luck with the fly fishing, it's a great sport.

| | | Re: Bargains I bought a multi-pocket gilet from an angling suppliers (online) - but the pockets were rubbish. I couldn't even get my hands in the hand-warmer pockets! Just a bad copy of a more expensive version, I'm afraid!

| | | Re: Bargains Hi Boddie , I am afraid that you have enbarked upon a slippery slope, For now its just buying clothes soon you will be tying your own flies and talking about blobs, boobies and Klinkhammers, You will realise that for years the money you spent on food clothing and shoes for the kids has been a worthless frippery and that there is a world of fishing gear out there that will lure you with false promises... There are fishing clubs that tempt you with hidden streams and quiet lakes. Quote: |
..Stop now while you are able.....
| PS I can recomend harris sportsmail and John Norris of penrith on tinternet as excellent sites to waste money on fishing gear...
welcome to the brotherhood of the angle,,,,
