The recent thread on Sunrise or Sunset? reminded me that I've been meaning to get myself a sun position compass. With Christmas fast approaching I thought it might be something my boys could get for me so I just googled for it. You can buy one for around £17-£20 but I also found a site where you can print your own! http://www.batsys.com/files/BAT_Syst...ompass_53N.pdf
You just align the sun compass with North using an ordinary magnetic compass and bingo! You can see where the sun will rise or set for every month in the year.
Still stuck for what my boys can get me for Christmas though...

That's a nice one Richard as it has the times as well as the directions - very useful.
My father-in-law has just laminated the one on the link I posted but I might have to ask him nicely if he'll do this one for me too!

The sun compass looks great but it is calibrated to 51 N 0 W - can it be re-calibrated to further north and west ??
or anybody know an easy way to add /subtract for other positions ?? |
