| | | Re: cheap Binoculars I realise these can't be called 'cheap' but last year I won a pair of Swarovski SLC 15*56 plus booster (muliplies x2 single lens) They are wonderful, but they cost so much I'm scared to take 'em out. So I use my old battered Eschenbach Derby 6x-12x*30's. I'd say for rough work (leaving in the car, etc.) take a cheap pair out and for planned stuff a 'good' set. Army and navy surplus seem to have decent, well priced stuff these days and old ex-army 8*30s. Not to be sneered at. They are a bit on the heavy side but solid and cheap.
By the way Jessops have a Binocular sale on !!! http://www.jessops.com/online.store/...lars/Show.html
This site has some good price too http://www.scopesnskies.com/cat/bino...Fcsa3godyUxLiQ

| | | Re: cheap Binoculars Those Bressers from Lidls for 12 quid odd are fantastic value for money and will be buying another pair so I can keep in my car for Astronomy, nature and general use. I wish I had some sort of optical aid when I was fishing down at Abbotsbury a couple of weeks back - the night sky was fantastically clear and was easily the best I've ever seen.

| | | Re: cheap Binoculars Just quickly and slightly off topic, If anyone sees a pair of Mikron 6X , Nippon Kogaku Tokyo up for sale please let me know. They are very small and fit happily in a shirt pocket. Mine were dipped out of my field jacket pocket, where they have lived for 6 years, last weekend at the Birmingham Xmas Market. Whoever did it was good as he/she got the zip open in passing. I've had these bins for 25 years and my great uncle 'liberated' them in Malaya when her got out of POW camp. I don't suppose I'll get them back but if you don't ask...

Lidl have Bresser 10x50 binoculars (with BAK-4 Prisms) on offer at £12.70 from 15th December. (Bresser RRP £59.95). | Just bought a pair of these to leave in the car.
Have to say, for £12.70 they are a steal. Rubber coated, c/w canvas style nylon carry case (serviceable - if not designer quality), neck strap, attachable rubber eyepiece cover, and plastic lens covers.
First impressions are very good. bright crisp image, easy to focus, etc. etc.
For the price - can't fault 'em.
Regards
Mike.

| | | Re: cheap Binoculars Nikon Action 8x42s. Got em half price at Jessops for £50. Wanted a new pair recently that would be lighter and a bit slimmer and was told by a chap at In Focus in Titchwell not to bother - I'd get better sharpness with other but the premium wasn't worth paying (the weight and size weren't going to be significantly better.
Brilliant binos and (reasonably) weatherproof (so far).
Is that another red squirrel avatar I see on the previous page, my there's a veritable rabble of us out there |

Jim | I got a pair from Lidl too for the same reason and paid £12.70, a bargain given as far as I can tell they usually sell for up to £60.

| | | Re: cheap Binoculars I got a pair today and while i agree they are great value for a tenner, i'm not as impressed as i thought i might be.
my biggest gripe is that the eye pieces dont fold down which is a pain if you wear glasses , and also while the image is relatively clear and bright they are not comparable with the more expensive bins I had before some scrote pinched them.
still my swmbo says she will buy me a set of bushnell nature view 8x40 prism binnys for my birthday so thats all good and the bressers will do til then and can then live in the truck for our volunteers to use - if they get damaged or lifted at a tenner they will be no great loss.
dont get me wrong for a tenner they are still a brilliant buy if thats all you can afford , but you wouldnt catch me paying the full bresser price (59.95) for these.
