| | | Tacky Bins! Hi folks. We have some bins that have gone "Tacky" on the rubber where you hold them & the eye piece. Does anyone know of a solution to this problem?
Thanks for your time, Pam

I was wondering how they have become tacky. Maybe a reaction to some type of chemical or have they been left in a hot car or window maybe.
I used to have a set of old golf clubs that had this problem, After using them my hands would be left with a black tacky substance on them. Also had an old 1969 land rover with the same problem on the steering wheel.
Any way you could try talc, this worked for my golf clubs but only for a short while. Id ask at your local camera/binocular shop.
Sorry i couldn't be more helpful

| | | Re: Tacky Bins! Hi Pam ..
You don't mention the age of your Binos, or whether or not they're still under Warranty .. if so then I'd be inclined to return them to wherever you bought them from & let the seller sort the problem out ... at their expense .. the Sale of Goods Act 1979 applies ... Sale of Goods Act Quick Facts - BERR
If they're not under Warranty or are quite old, then you could try something called "Sticky Stuff Remover" .. its sold to get rid of the residue left behind by sticky labels etc .. (I got mine from the "Kleeneze" catalogue) .. but I'm sure it will be on sale elsewhere (possibly under a different name .. try your local Hardware shop) .. I'd suggest testing it on a part of the Binos which won't show ...
Alternatively, you could cover the "tacky" parts with electricians tape .. and buy replacement eye cups .. the manufacturer of your Binos should have a website & you'll probably be able to obtain (for a small charge) various spare parts ..
Best of luck ..
Bye for now ..
Kev ..

| | | Re: Tacky Bins! Thanks for the reply boys. We were given them from my Dad, so not new! I`ve googled the problem & it seems to be some kind of reaction in the chemicals they use in the rubber over a period of time. We have other binoculars but it seems wasteful not to use them. Husband is going to try some kind of sealer, will also bear your solutions in mind.
Thanks again, Pam
