| | | Weather Beating Clothing (Walking and Stalking I have been looking at the bewildering ranges of warm and waterproof
coats. Breathable shells with zip in liners some with hoods some without,
all designed for some specific outdoor sport or hobby.
What do our members wear in their wildlife pursuits? I still use the older "ventile" cotton Country Innovation coat it is non rustle and breathable
but becomes stiff and uncomfortable after a few hours in the rain and was very expensive.
Are there any recommendations for reasonably priced garments that are;
1/non rustle
2/muted colours
3/breathable
4/hood

Try anything from the "Deerhunter" range .. not cheap .. but very, very good ..
I've got their Jacket & trousers (with zip-in Goretex lining) ... excellent bits of kit ..
Would also recommend "Sealskinz" gloves & waterproof socks (if your boots aren't already watertight) ..
Bye for now ..
Kev ..

| | | Re: Weather Beating Clothing (Walking and Stalking My OH is out a lot in all weathers and as far as jackets go, he swears by Musto. Not at the cheapest end of the range, but then you certainly get what you pay for in this line. He bought me one a few years ago and it is wonderful. It looks as though it is going to be really heavy and bulky, but it is in fact very comfortable and easy wearing.
check out their website for more details of the jackets and other items too. |

| | | Re: Weather Beating Clothing (Walking and Stalking I have been using Arktis for about fifteen years, have three jackets, trousers etc and wouldn't use anything else because I'm more than happy with the stuff. In common with the other opinions, good clothing doesn't come cheap.
Was out on a training session last night in very heavy rain and came home dry - what more do you want? |

Smock
Hence I am venturing into the HellyHanson/North Face/Berghaus/same as everyone clothing

(but the military demand the best, I know)

| | | Re: Weather Beating Clothing (Walking and Stalking A lot of outdoor folk swear by Paramo, 'tho I'm currently using lightweight Gortex.
Aldi are currently stocking some waterproof, breathable, thermal trousers. They're £9.99. My wife's had a pair for a couple of years and she loves them, and looks forward the winter so she can wear them again - they're so comfortable and cosy!
Although 'Kev' recommended them, I'd not bother with 'Sealskinz' socks. Unless they come up to your armpits, water _will_ get in through the top. Once that happens, you might as well take them off and put them in your rucksack, because the membrane that keeps water out is as efficient in keeping it in - and they'll never get dry! Having said that, they can be useful to carry in your pack if you need to ford a river. Ford the river in your boots without any socks and when you get to the other side, drain your boots and put on the 'Sealskinz' so your feet don't get wet from the boots.
