sigma 150 macro??

They are both fine lens. The main advantage the Sigma has is the extra working distance from the subject. If one of your main interests is insects, this is a major factor to take into consideration.

My cameras are Nikon so I have no experience with any Canon lenses.

After some bad experiences with third party lenses on my film cameras I swore I would only buy Nikon glass after going digital. I broke that rule with the Sigma 150 purely on the advice of WAB members and after seeing the results they were getting with it. I know Graham (glsammy) has said it's his favourite lens and I would agree with that. It's not the fastest focuser but I use it in manual focus more than 50% of the time anyway. For sharpness, contrast and overall image quality I would rate it as the best lens I own.
