| | | Mouth Watering NEW NATURALIST reissues Ok whos salivating?..... The New Naturalists - The Folio Society
seems a lot of money doesnt it?....but not when you consider a good first edition of number one can sell for £20,000! these are faithful reproduction/reprints
p.s...these are all legit made by COLLINS they are just also available on the folio society website.

| | | Re: Mouth Watering NEW NATURALIST reissues Very nice!
I have a number of Folio editions - I keep joining and leaving to get the introductory offers! They are beautifully produced books. Strange that they've put dustjackets on these as they don't normally do that with the slip-cased, buckram-bound ones.
I'm waiting for a decent offer on The Essential Darwin Series - The Folio Society before joining again...

They don't make it very obvious on the Folio web site though do they? There's no mention of Collins in the text, you have to look closely at the pictures to see the Collins name on the dustjackets.

| | | Re: Mouth Watering NEW NATURALIST reissues Yes i see your point but HELLO??? the COLLINS new naturalist series is the most famous and collectable natural history book series ever....surely everyone knows its published by Collins?....unless, forgive me, if this is the first time you have spied the said collection from my link?....
the NN series (actually the covers to be honest) are ridiculously collectable and go "out of print" soon after release....some "good" first editions have sold for up to £20,000 !
Sir David is a collector....i wonder if he has them all....bet he does the lucky so and so!

| | | Re: Mouth Watering NEW NATURALIST reissues I see your point too Dan, but...
Folio are in the business of producing new editions of books originally published by someone else. I now have over fifty Folio editions all but two of which had previously been published by at least one different company (the two exceptions being new anthologies commissioned by the Folio Society). So although you're quite right about the well-deserved reputation of the Collins series, it's not that weird to think that Folio may have produced their own editions.
None of which excuses me for not reading your original post correctly, where you did quite clearly state that they were Collins editions!

| | | Re: Mouth Watering NEW NATURALIST reissues But these are described as "facsimiles", which according to my dictionary means "an exact copy". Of course they have Collins on the dust jackets. But I think they are probably produced by the Folio Society. It is under the tab "Our Books". But according to the web, they are indeed published by HarperCollins - how strange - wonder what the Folio Soc get out of it?

| | | Re: Mouth Watering NEW NATURALIST reissues Yes i must admit (and appologies to you both) having spent the last hour investigating im not sure exactly WHO is publishing them? or if its a combined deal?....NHB site has them listed under the NN section....and several news paper articles have it as "collins re issues" and there is a discussion about them on the new...newnaturalists.com website ( which i never new existed until now...yaya!)
The overall opinion though is that although nice, the first "ten" they were massive print runs and still readily available even first editions if you hunt...for reasonable money.
The BIG STORY would be re issues of the impssible to find small print run rare 13 books....now that WOULD be something! of course everyone is hoping that this is the first TEN reissues of the entire set!! ha ha

Endquote
That's because HC deliberately keep the print run of the hardback version low, I think
.
