That's because HC deliberately keep the print run of the hardback version low, I think
.
henrya | Oh yes it is absolutely....makes it all much more fun and collectable.
Incidentally...going back to the folio/collins issue, it appear the re issues are indeed published by harper collins and all that folio is doing is offering the same books as a set in the typical folio boxed slipcase. but the books are still available normally individual through harper collins.

| | | Re: Mouth Watering NEW NATURALIST reissues The print run is ridiculously low for such a popular series, volumes which have only been out for a few months will quickly rise in price from the original cover price of £45, as some customers have found to their chagrin, when they've put off buying a new one and a full set of first state first editions will indeed cost in excess of £20,000.
One of the problems that collectors are having is that Collins have on occasion reprinted an issue, without stating it in the book, so some collectors have bought what they thought was a true 1st Ed, but in fact bought a reprint. It's perhaps a debatable issue, but the fanatical collectors are adamant that they must have the original 1st. |

| | | Re: Mouth Watering NEW NATURALIST reissues Very true rich.
I will/do try to buy the editions while still "first" of new releases but as for the past, i just want a copy of each book with a cover or repro cover if need be, i just want to have whole set ( ok so i may never find the rare 13) to read and have on the shelf looking nice in their covers, im not fussed if first editions or even 3rd editions...i will never sell them anyway, my kids (when i make some) will inherit them, wether they are valuable firsts or not so valuable reprints its whats in them that is valuable!

| | | Re: Mouth Watering NEW NATURALIST reissues For wildlife bibliophiles, an interesting notice in the latest Sorby Newsletter.
Harper Collins are going to offer (5 months or so ...) "... about 80 of the more recent, but currently out-of-print, New Naturalist titles as print-on-demand. POD copies will be at the same prices as current new titles i.e. £45 hardback £25 paperback."
More information at Harper Collins? |
