| | | Re: bino's Im not going to launch into another tiresome bino thread as there are loads on here....and i realise the situation is for a gift for a very tight budget.
Generally the rule is dont go below £200 ( most serious birders spend around £700 - £1000 on a set of bins)
You WILL not get a pair of nightvision that do what they are meant to do not only for under £120 but not even under £3000, night vision is a highly specialised expensive technology, do not be foold by so called Yukon Nightvision scope etc on ebay...all toot.
And the same goes for zoom ( at least in the under £500 bracket) but in general zoom and any other gimmicks all sap quality.
but if your fella just want to see birds a bit bigger than normal and is not fussed about micro detail and brightness then im sure there are bins around the £120 mark that will do the job and i personally would look at the bushnell range ( the compacts not the Large trad style).
I think you can get Bushnell Trophy's ( which is what i started with) waterporrof, nitrogen filled, rubber coated body, coated lense etc....for about £120 on ebay! not a bad pair of bins to be honest im only just moving up to the £700-£1000 mark after a good few years with mine.

| | | Re: bino's He got a pair of Leica trinovid bino's, very compact and a wee bit more expensive than 120. He's very happy with them. I appreciate what you said about NV's. I just hoped they may have dropped drastically in price like most new gadgets on the market, maybe in another 5 years or so.
Thanks
