Laptop Insurance, any recommendations?

I have just become the proud owner of a lovely new DELL XPS Laptop and I'm looking for insurance as I'll be taking to Uni with me and what-have-you.

I was just wondering if any of the photographers took their laptops out with them and if you could send me a private message to recommend an insurance company.

Hi

can't you put it on your house insurance, it's usually the cheapest option with camera gear.

I'm not sure if that would be enough, as I bought it to take to college with me, so I really don't know if it would be insured should anything happen to it away from home. I'll have to ask Dad to look over the policy for me.

You can usually add things to your home insurance policy for all risks (ie: not at home). Yes, read the small print. We found our laptop was only insured while we were in the same room and there was a debate about whether a big exhibition hall was actually the same room when it was stolen!

On the other hand there are special student insurance deals but sorry I can't remember what my son used while at uni.

Thanks Jenny , I'll ask my friends at Uni when I go back as well and see what kind of insurance they have.

I have PM'd you with some details of an insurer and have just noticed that they also insure students equipment on a separate package.

When my 2 girls were at Uni, I'm sure they had their gear with a company that specialized in insuring students stuff.

Thank you . Luckily my campus is not far from my home, so no student digs for me (thank goodness!) so I will have to look into the whys and wherefores' of the coverage. Thanks for the link .
