| | | Re: Waterproof Trousers I put him onto fishing tackle shops for camo waterproof silent gear!
I use a pair of expensive (£70-ish) Shimano Trail trousers (thy are overtrousers but I wear them as stand alone in wet spring or autumn weather (would be just too hot and sweaty in high summer - when I don't mind being wet and muddy - preff with shorts and walking sandals on and just wash muck off my legs and feet) To date nothing has gone thro the Shimano and I don't expect it to - they do rustle slightly when walking - but that has more to do with the way I walk! I think it would be difficult to rip them - not impossible but difficult they seem sturdy.
The Jacket is Prologic camo totally waterproof integeral hood (can't lose it - folds into collar but makes nexk tight - prefer to let it shield my neck at the back by not folding it away). It has a zip out fleece many pockets handy neoprene cuffs and is wind and waterproof (think it was around £90 which was reasonable as other makes and in the 100's and 2oo's)
And as an afterthought - boy do I envy where you live - enjoy it for me won't you?!!!
Pauline
PS There are pics of me wearing the jacket on my zenfolio website and an uncomplimentary shot of my trousers (backside!) just look in the People Pix - Poking Fun Gallery!!!

My waterproof jacket is a Berghaus Prolite lightweight gortex. For trousers I have a lightweight non-breathable pair - can't remember the name. They're relatively rustle-free. I usually wear Ron Hill tracksters and if it's only light rain or doesn't look to last, I let them get wet because they're still quite warm when wet, and dry quickly when the rain stops.

| | | Re: Waterproof Trousers Have a look at Arktis gear on their website. I've been using it for about fifteen years. Never had a problem with it and wear one of two coats almost daily. The trousers have a unique waist fastening and an upside down zip which takes a bit of getting used to! www.arktisltd.co.uk

| | | Re: Waterproof Trousers I have recently taken up fly fishing and am astonished at just how reasonbaly priced some of the clothing aimed at fishermen is.
I have paid what what would have cost me double for wet weather gear if it were aimed at hill walkers or purchased in 'pursuits' shops.
I guess it is a competetive market and anglers wont pay the inflated prices.
In fact such is my enthusiam for this I will start a new thread

| | | Re: Waterproof Trousers Is Goretex quiet or rustly? I've been looking on the net for waterproof gear after getting soaked to the skin at Elmley last weekend but you can't tell wether it's quiet or not from a web page.
Checking out the fishing tackle shops and they are definitely better value, as are army surplus sites.

I've laid in mud and 'scrawmed' about on the ground without bothering and the other good thing about camo patterns - you can't neccessarily tell when they're dirty!!!
As boddie says look in any big shop at the well known brand names aimed at walkers and any goretex stuff will be much dearer - and yes better if you're going to walk miles in the rain - but for hanging around, sitting about and blending into the background - which is my forte -then polyurethane backed Shimano and Prologic gear was made for me! And if I get bored with photography I could always take up fishing again and look the part ....... Hahahahahaha (bored? with photography? not a chance!!)
