| | | Re: entering Grid Reference into garmin etrex That's ok. But to be honest, if you have the Memory-Map software, it takes the headache out of creating a route.
Funny I did'nt get a cd-rom with my eTrex H just a manual. |

| | | Re: entering Grid Reference into garmin etrex I had the Memory Map V4, but going to get the V5 for my new lap-top, when I hopefully get one in the New Year sale's.
Memory map is pretty good, and really great for plotting routes or down-loading routes.
I would love the Memory Map - Coast to Coast, but @ £99, can't see the point, when I've done the walk 5 times.
There is anquet map software, which I've never tried yet. But, I think the Memory Maps are the best in my option. |

| | | Re: entering Grid Reference into garmin etrex Don't forget that there are also OpenStreetMap extracts which can be used with the Garmin MapSource PC program. These extracts can be used for nothing other than the time downloading and installing them. Of course coverage is patchy, but in some parts of Britain the detail is pretty good. More details here: OSM Map On Garmin/Download - OpenStreetMap Wiki. With an etrex H you need ones which are mapsource compatible. I personally use All-in-One map, but have also used TalkyToasters maps, and OpenMTBMap (best for searching for pubs etc ). Some of these will calculate walking routes for you.
Also the new version of MemoryMap software allows use of the Ordnance Survey StreetView tiles (this is good quality streetname mapping), although they take a lot of diskspace. I think MemoryMap do a 30 day trial so its worth seeing if it suits.
Lastly, it may be possible that someone will make a map from the OS OpenData for Garmins. However, I'm not aware of anything yet.
The latter two options are not very useful if you want lots of footpath mapping. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
