| | | Re: spotting scope You have done the right thing, dont worry.
Yes, the piccolo is made by Opticron and it is a good little scope.
The last thing you want to do is to spend considerable amounts of cash on a large flash ED scope just to find that you don't really get on with scopes.
I bought my first spotting scope in 1983, a Bushnell Spacemaster 15 -45 x 60, and guess what, I'm still using it! I have been a birder all that time and am still perfectly happy with it, nearly 25 years on, and its still serving me well.
Enjoy using your scope, it will open up a whole new world for you, and as I said dont worry, you could still be using it happily in many years time.

| | | Re: spotting scope I have an Opticron Piccolo scope and find it to be a good bit of kit for £50
I have even tried a few photos through it with my Sony W50.
This is a good scope for a tryout before spending real money,at Slimbridge,
I counted ten of these during a long day, many having been doing stirling duty for years according to their users. It is small, light with a good zoom range and even a tripod thrown in definitely a budget scope with big ideas

| | | Re: spotting scope I have had an opticron scope for 25 years and am still using it. The only advice I would say it that to use the high magnification you need very good light and a good tripod. Otherwise I am sure it will serve you well.
