| | | Is this scope alright? Bresser Optics Bresser P90 25 - 75x 90mm spotting scope
Does anyone have any experience of using one of these? To mne it looks great but I know you can get some scopes that are complete rubbish despite all the advertising patter! |

Some kind soul gave me some advice recently about some Tasco binoculars being terrible.
(He was a Zeiss or Leica etc... fan probably).
Me and the other half, went into a store, tried some Tasco 10x42 and they were fine for us - so we bought them.
On our limited budget, they're great as far as we are concerned - if not as good as more expensive makes I'm sure, but we wouldn't have bought them without trying them first.
The same goes for my pretty "poor" spotting scope (if you want to call it that - I' normally peering at the moon or planets through it, though I have used it to look at birds and mammals too).
Its a Celestron scope. Ridiculed by many, but it does very nicely for us ta very much.
Regarding your telescope above, the 90mm objective lens sounds very nice indeed on paper. Not sure how often you'll be zooming to the full 75x though.
Try it though, as Andy said.
It might be great for you, at a decent price too...

| | | Re: Is this scope alright? I was also thinking about this Bresser Bresser Safari 20 to 60 x 80 and tripod kit spotting scope due to it being cheaper/having better optics/nitrogen filled/having a tripod with it.
If I come into any money which is desperately unlikely I might have a look at the pro version of the first scope I mentioned ( Bresser Optics Bresser P90-pro 25 - 75x 90mm spotting scope), which looks good too.
I usually tend to think that bigger=better with zoom etc. but I don't really know if in birdwatching I'll ever need the extra 15x zoom over the 60x. |

| | | Re: Is this scope alright? DO'NT BUY WITHOUT TRYING - PLEASE
I'd be surprised if that degree of zoom was sharp at either end of the range, as even the expensive Swaros only zoom 20 - 60 I think.
Above x40 zoom you need a very sturdy tripod. As I've mentioned in other threads, when I bought my Viking scope, I was very dissapointed, until I put it on a really solid and smooth manfrotto. IMO cheaper tripods are worse than cheaper scopes |

| | | Re: Is this scope alright? I am sure that you will be able to get an excellent scope for that money . The large objective lens and big zoom range sounds good but I would say you are better sticking with magnification in the 20 to 30 range and an objective diameter of 60mm and trying to get something as high quality as your pound notes will stretch to.. Incidentally a friend of mine has just bought a secondhand Optolyth 30x70 draw tube scope of ebay for £144 and although 10 years old it is superb,,
