| | | Learn Birdsong I am a real novice when it comes to birds and bird watching; however, I am very keen to learn. For my Birthday, I am thinking about asking for “birdvoice”. It is a MP3 player that comes with a book, when you touch a picture of a bird the player makes the call / song of that bird. It is an aid to help the novice learn birdcalls. Does any one have one, or had a go on one is it any good?

| | | Re: Novice wans to learn birdcalls I would also be interested in this as it would help a lot to know what we are trying to see.
So far we have only managed to pick up the bluetit and the green finch!
I guess we know the blackbird as well but maybe we make assumptions that we shouldn't.
I was wondering about those clocks I might get one now I know they are good.
Is the birdvoice very expensive?

| | | Re: Novice wans to learn birdcalls There are quite a few aids out there to help you learn bird song/calls. Check out the RSPB site. Have not heard about the MP3 system, but you cant beat getting out in the field and listening and seeing the birds to ID them.

Jo | The Mp3 Pen is about £99 and then you have to buy the stickers or field guide or organiser which is another £15-£35 depending on what you opt for. Not cheap this is why I wanted some feedback before buying.

| | | Re: Learn Birdsong No reflection on mp3, it sounds ideal if you can afford it as its portable etc. I learned common species from good old cd at home. Very restful too just before bedtime. |

I shall see what I can find locally.
Thanks |

| | | Re: Learn Birdsong there's a video guide you can buy that loads onto a video ipod that gives you clips and songs/calls for each species, Not sure about the price of the new ipod video nano thing but it might be worth considering as its very lightweight and small - easy to refer to in the field I'd have thought - particularly good if you are a music fan too...... |
