Also room for another lens, hopefully the 400mm next also lots of room for spare lens covers, hood, bats, cards etc. As Mike says, comes with a day pack which should easily hold picnic nosh and a light waterproof coat. All this with weatherproof cover |
Thanks for the information Galanthus, it seems to be just what I'm looking for, I will now check the web for prices |

| | | Re: Lowepro Nature Trekker AW II I bought the LowePro Nature Trekker AW II mainly because I wanted something that would allow me to lug ALL my gear around including the Sigma Bigma (50-500mm).
Needless to say, there's very few times when I'd want to carry this 10Kg ( 1stone 8lbs) backpack around with me, but when you feel that you can't bear to leave anything behind, it's perfect!
Normally I use a Tamrac Expedition-4 which is a great backpack but cannot accommodate the Bigma. I'd love to find a small case which would hold just my D300 with the Bigma attached. Anyone know of one? |

I also have a Lowepro Primus AW. Primarily bought as a travel pack, allowing me to carry a few other things in the top section along with DSLR and 2-3 lenses in the bottom. Love the side access and this was the primary reason for getting one, but be aware that, whilst the bag will take a camera with grip or one of the pro bodies, the side access is too small to get them in/out. I've since discovered it will take my D80 with Sigma 150-500mm attached, but only with a very tight squeeze and again not via the side access. Still it does the job and might be worth considering. |

I was looking for a pack that was weatherproof and versatile enough to carry my photographic gear as and when I wanted a particular set of kit, namely macro, wildlife and landscape. I eventually decided on the Lowepro Flipside 400 AW which I can kit out with different types of equipment and it is not too heavy. The big advantage for me is the ability for it to swivel around on the hip belt and I can easily take out my gear, a big advantage when climbing the hill in the rain with all my Paramo gear on.
A link is here: Lowepro - Flipside 400 AW
I cannot vouch whether it will take the Bigma, as I do not own one. It certainly accommodates the Canon 100-400mm L lens and hood, plus a variey of other lenses and 5D.
