| | | Canon 30D Does anyone on this Forum own a Canon 30D as I am very close to buying one.
I would like to hear their opinion on the Camera.
I know owners of a 30D will like the camera ( Thats why they bought one)But I am interested in the niggles that they may have with the 30D, in other words any dislikes about the camera.

I could have gone for the 30D, but decided I'd rather have the 20D and keep the extra money for something else.
There have been some problems reported with the 30D. I'd recommend the 20D for now. |

Fred | Hi Fredi, I thought you took part in the previous discussion, but to recap the 30D has a few upgrades mainly its larger screen etc, but the sensor and processing engine are the same as the 20D which can be picked up much cheaper if its still available. I have tried the 30D twice now and there in no difference in image quality to the 20D except it slightly overexposes. There is also a reported banding issue although Canon have released two firmware updates so they must be trying to fix it.

Fred | Hi I have the 30D it came with firmware 1.4, if you check the versions fixes you will see the reason for one of the fixes, fix 1.4 is to correct a problem with the Chinese display on the screen. One of the earlier fixes I believe was to fix the banding. I also have the 20D and agree that it is not a lot different to the 30D. I like the large screen on the 30D it has a lot of info on it when you press info in the shooting mode, the 20D I have underexposed quite a bit (the supplier said it is done by Canon on purpose) mine under exposes more than others I have seen. I agree that the 30D over exposes and can blow the highlights if you don’t take care I like the 30D’s spot metering and the many more ISO increments. There are only a few other improvements that are well documented on the net. I paid £830 for the 30D and the 20D is not that much cheaper (watch Digi upset me again about how much cheaper he can get the 20D) I am very happy with the 20D and 30D. Go for either, am sure you will be happy with them both.
