In Nikon's case, dealers etc. have no advance knowledge of new products until the company releases details. I would assume Canon are equally secretive about new releases.

| | | Re: Canon 40D You people are soooooooo behind the times. What about the new 1Ds mark lll and the 5D mark ll etc. All up and running and in use in New York! Have a look at the write ups on this site. Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III (EOS-1DS MK3)
I wonder how true it all is. The bit about the new Canon sensor is very interesting. Would they make them for third party MF cameras? My Bronicas could do with updating. |

Keith. | I'd have said it was a hoax - that looks like a 30D with the 4 off a 400D photoshoped on - i also sincerely hope that when the 40D does arrive it will be more than a 30D with the 400D sensor and dust removal (which is strictly a gimic anyway) tagged on

Keith. | that one is a hoax, bear in mind they were talking about Sept 2006
However, there are more credible rumours flying around, claiming that the 40D will have dust removal, 3" screen, live view and 10mp. I would certainly expect the 40D to have dust removal and 10mp, the rest may be just guesswork.

The site that I quoted says that some of the cameras are in use in New York with a NDA to keep them quiet about it. It has made me put my 1Ds mk ll purchase on hold. Who wants a camera that has been replaced. I suppose I could manage with a pair of H3Ds. |

| | | Re: Canon 40D it seems the rumours I referred to above were genuine. Dpreview now has a preview of the 40D, and the key features are dust removal, 10mp, live view, 3" screen and 6.5 fps. It uses the new digicIII processor. Sounds good to me. It will be interesting to see the price.

Matt | I'll bet it costs over £250! Nothing on the Canon site yet.
The 40D looks interesting, but not as interesting as the 1Ds mk 3 with 21.1 mega pixels. This is getting into the realms of medium format digital cameras. It was said that Canon had found a way to get more pixels onto the sensors and if this camera is not just a rumour, they have done just that. What could they get onto a medium format sensor I wonder.
I am told that the P40+ digital back at 39 mega pixels costs in the region of $30,000. I doubt that the 1Ds mk lll will cost anywhere near that.
The Dpreview mentions two DIGIC lll processors for the 1Ds mk lll but mentions nothing about the 40D processors.
One retailer is accepting £25 deposits for the 1Ds mk lll at a retail price of £5999 for the body. This is the only information listed for it:-
21 Megapixels of full frame resolution with the flexibility that only an EOS SLR can offer. Benefit from DIGIC III processing, rugged build quality and technologies that redefine SLR performance.
• 21 MP full frame CMOS
• 14-bit A/D processing
• 5 fps, max. burst of 56 JPEGs
• Dual "DIGIC III" processors
• High precision wide area AF
• EOS Integrated Cleaning System
• ISO 100-1600 range (L:50 H:3200)
• 3.0" LCD with Live View mode
• EF lens compatibility |

Matt | by live view this presumably means an LCD screen as useful as the one on my FZ30? One that can also be used as a viewfinder?
Might even be enough to inch me a little closer to owning one!!
I'm guessing that the price will have me sobbing into my pillow............... | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
