The features that sound nice on the 40D are the extra fps and the possibly improved AF. I already have 10mp and dust removal and I'm not bothered about live view. In fact the more I think about it the more it seems very expensive compared to a 400D - it's more than double the price!
Matt | Yep, I don't use F22 often, and after the last episode, It will be a long time before I use it again! I was doing close ups, and trying to get the maximum DOF, but it made little real improvement.
Of course, having the 20D, I get 5fps now, so 1 more isn't that exciting! I'm not that convinced I need 10mp either, 8.1 is fine for me. Nope, this is one I can happily leave alone, unless mine decides its had enough! |

CANON AUTUMN COLLECTION
Two new EOS cameras
Three new lenses
Canon has strengthened its lineup of professional cameras with the 21 megapixel EOS-1Ds Mark III. This 5fps model delivers 14-bit depth resolution from a newly-developed 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor. It produces files that convert to over 100MB uncompressed 16-bit TIFF, setting a new benchmark in image resolution and sharpness for 35mm-format digital photography. It is the first pro model with the EOS Integrated Cleaning System to reduce the problem of sensor dust.
The new EOS 40D, aimed at enthusiasts and semi-professionals, has a 10.1 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor and offers 6.5fps. It has a newly-developed AF system, a 3 inch LCD with Live View mode, plus the EOS Integrated Cleaning System to combat sensor dust. Also new is the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E3, bui;t to work with the EOS 40D.
The new EF 14mm f2.8L II USM lens replaces the earlier version introduced in 1991. The lens has the shortest focal length in the L-series range, offering an angle-of-view of 114 degrees with a 35mm frame format. The newly-designed lens incorporates aspherical and UD elements to achieve the highest standards of image fidelity.
The EF-S range of lenses, for APS-C format digital models, is expanded with the addition of the EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 IS and the EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS. These are the first lenses in the EF-S series to incorporate a 4-stop image stabilizer.
You will find links to further information and specifications on the home page of EOS magazine |

I think i'll wait a while tho cause if the 30D is anything to go by there will be a flurry of offers after the launch date.

I shall keep my 5D as a backup and probably my MS2 as well, but what do I do with my two Bronica outfits and my 350D and Fuji S7000? In the past I have always hung onto my old equipment, but this time I shall have to look for a dealer who will take them in part exchange. I have too much equipment in cupboards which just isn't getting used. I shall be sorry to see the S7000 go as it is a beautiful camera to use. |

Prior to the launch of the 400D Jessops were taking pre-orders at over £600. Within a few weeks of its release it was down to £450 or thereabouts.
Also, waiting a while might be sensible because there could be hardware or firmware teething problems initially.

| | | Re: Canon 40D I see that the 1Ds mk lll is being offered at £800 off the RRP already. On one site, under the heading of Canon 1Ds mk lll, people are talking about the 1D mk lll. I think that the similarity of names will cause some confusion. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
