most of those will be a bespoke kit where you get a box and a camera but you can also try using a normal webcam in a hole drilled through the top of an existing nestbox (tho dont drill it now - do it in the winter when the box isnt in use) you glue a sandwich box over the web cam to make it waterproof then run a long usb2 cable back to your PC
before you can do this you need to remove the IR filter to make it sensitive to IR light - and install an IR led for illumination (instructions abound for this on the web - try the digihack site
another option is the slightly more expensive security cameras - these normally have IR capability built in and are more weatherproof and can be attached to a tv.

Rules state:-
"You may not recommend, praise, or belittle any products, services or companies; without first hand experience of those products or services." |

this is of course open to interpretation and is a matter of degree - we all routinely say stuff like "I bought my camera at jessops and...." but name checking specific ebay traders or writing posts of the type " I bought my camera from bodgit and scarper photographic suplliers they give great service why dont you all check out their keen prices on www......"
is discouraged because it makes it difficult for mods to seperate spam from the genuine posts.

There is a lot of grey there. There is a wealth of equipment out there and a wealth of users. Surely rather than self manage, one can leave it to the mods to spot trends. People are not silly and will make there own mind up about a product at the end of the day.
I know this is a public forum but if three responses come up with a specific lets say Leica and only one responds well with a recommendation for a Hassleblad then it is my choice at the end of the day which one I buy.
I am not sure that this is necessarily healthy for the forum. With 11,000 members and the most on line ever at the same time being 380 on a Thursday afternoon.
Please excuse me I am just feeling my way here.
By the way, which Bird Box Camera should I buy if my budget is £250.00? |

By the way, which Bird Box Camera should I buy if my budget is £250.00? | its not self management there is a very specific site rule that outlaws making supplier reccomendations - see the thread on that by stu dh
like i said you can reccomend products and brands - just not specific places to buy them
i'm not going to argue - I've said my piece and whether you want to heed the advice is up to you (and the mods/site admin)
bid box camera wise - there is ample choice in that price range - most come in at about 50-80 notes - just look for the highest resolution you can get - particularly if you want to lift off stills as well as vid clips

Thanks for your reply.
I put out a new thread for recommendations for the purchase of binocular straps and this is a reply that I have received:-
"whichever is most comfortable for you. best advice is to take your bins to your local optics shop, and try them with different straps.
i like the padded neoprene ones myself, which you can pick up online relatively cheaply if you're not a brand bunny like some birders can be if you stick binocular straps into a decent search engine you should get a bunch of websites to compare them on.
hope this helps"
I believe this reply echoes your statement.
I am not looking to sell anything but would welcome advice on purchases from other consumers with like minded interests.

| | | Re: Which Bird Box Camera? If you look on ebay approx £25 spycam camera has built in transmitter to receiver .you plug into TV or recorder good for about 50'. Buy silver camera with 3 led lights either side of lens.
I have used these cameras for the past 3 years on Blue Tits, Great Tits,Robins And Wrens.
