Never mind, I am not actually retired and still make my living from photography - not just selling the odd photo - actually making a living at it. I am only retired from working for the government.
The more lenses owned is not a measure of ability. I think that you will find that a 16-35 and a 28-300 L series lens should cover everything the 'normal' photographer needs, unless of course the photographer has the common sense to only have prime lenses, which do not compromise on quality in the same way that zoom lenses do.
My comments on buying two 1Ds mk llls were a joke. May I recommend an anger management course? It could make someone a little sweeter.
Well, I'm off now with my trusty camera to make some more money, so that I can pay my taxes and support those without jobs. Back in a month or so. | I'm puzzled as to what personal attack you think has been made - you have personally attacked me , but I have simply stated the photographic case that for many things a cropped sensor is the equal or better of a full frame.
For the record I do not claim to be an expert in all things - For example i know very little about beetles and bow to pauls greater knowledge in that feild , next to nothing about dragonflies and defer to fourwings on that , and as i said above I appreciate that I am not your equal on photographic theory or on the use of large format cameras.
However I am an expert on the use of DSLRs for action and wildlife photography - and I too have been trained and do far more than sell the occasional picture - last year my take was a tad under £10k and that is working part time.
The only thing that spoils the site is your attitude that yours is the only valid opinion. I have twice offered to agree to disagree but you persist in denigrating my experience and attacking me personally simply because i dare to suggest that other opinions might be equally valid.
I agree that more lenses are not a measure of ability but I would be extremly suprised if most pros use only two - I have four that i use regularly (90mm macro , 28-135IS, 10-20mm wide angle and 170-500, I find that 300mm is in no way long enough for wildlife or action) this means that while having two bodies can protect the sensor to some extent ( I generally work with the 170-500 on one and the 28-135 on the other) you will still need lense changes in the field
Now for the third time of asking can we just drop it ?

the camera shop i frequent had a 350mm tamron SP f5.6 mirror in the window for €100 - i went in and asked the chap behind the counter (who i know on a first name basis) about it. he said 'ooh, i wouldn't buy that if i were you'. i asked why, and he said he has the zuiko 500mm mirror, and could count the number of shots he'd taken with it on the fingers of both hands.
i pointed out that €100 was a bit steep so, and he said 'fair enough, i talked myself into it', and gave it to me for €75 (about STG£45, i think).
it had never been used. it's pristine - the threads on the (4) supplied filters were unmarked. great on my E500, it's the equivalent of 700mm. | I think that shows that at the price they are certainly worth trying and it has to be better than just about any 75 Euro 350mm refracting lens you could buy. Have you got any pics yet you could post??
Oh, and ask the camera shop guy if he wants to do the same deal on his useless zuiko - I'll have it! |

| | | Re: Question about Mirror Lens Hi, the guy is either really bad at stock control or very shrewed for stashing them away. I'd like to have a bunch of brand new, boxed OM bodies to put on eBay.
Kinda like to have one for me, but I'd get major grief from Mrs Z. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
