35 mm Format
Kodak Colour Snap
Zenith E - PhotoSniper
Practica Nova B
Pentax spotmatic
Olympus OM1
Olympus OM2
Nikon F
Nikon FM
6x6 Format
Lubitel 166
Mamiyaflex C220
Rolleicord 6x6
Large Format
MPP (Micro Precision Products) Plate Camera
It then went down hill from there with the introduction of digital cameras
Olympus Camedia - 1.3 mp
Olympus Camedia C-2000 Z - 2.1 mp
Olympus C 400 – 4mp
Olympus C8080 – 8mp (Still the best camera for fungi photography)
Nikon F80 – 10.2 mp
Btw the 1.3 mp Olympus cost more than the Nikon D80! |

| | | Re: What camera did you start on? Started out with an ancient Halina Paulette which cost me 35p from a village jumble sale. Quickly progressed to a more modern Halina Pet, and then a Zenith E slr.
When the Zenith eventually died I bought a Practika BC1, plus a couple of lenses, which was very good.
When digital began to become affordable I switched to an excellent Nikon E4300 which has now been passed on to my eldest daughter.
I now use a Panasonic FZ50 with a TCON14 tele-extender. First rate camera. |

| | | Re: What camera did you start on? Zenit E quickly followed by Pentax K-1000 which has lasted 30+ years (and thousands of slides) and still works!
Then went digital in 1999 with a Fuji Fine Pix, followed by a Nikon Coolpix 4500 which is still in use and even preferred over my more expensive kit when it comes to moths and fungi close ups! In March 2006 achieved my dream purchase Canon EOS 20D and added a few lenses: EF100-400 (and bird photography and stalking finally arrived for me! ) a standard lens which I think is 28-135 (excellent portrait lens) Sigma 10-20 wide angle and Sigma 105 macro.
Would still like the 50-500 . . . and the prime 400 . . . and . . . umm . . .

Later in life I caught the bug when my father gave ma a Zorki 35mm. Actually quite a decent camera as the shutter is so quiet.
Then bought me a cheap Centon SLR, which broke last year. Really got into B&W and infra red photography but when I lost the darkroom it really became just too frustrating.
So now have a cheap digicam and really miss the whole manual control and lack of decent lenses.
One day I'll get that digital SLR, but theres a little matter of night vision and Nagler eyepieces to be resolved yet!

| | | Re: What camera did you start on? My dad bought me a Russian Zenith E when I was a boy and then progressed to Minolta cameras and lenses. I gave photography up for many years and when I caught the bug again I bought a Sony Alpha 100 digital SLR as I can use my old Minolta lenses. Great camera and all the lenses work perfectly.

| | | Re: What camera did you start on? First proper camera i had was a Zenit E given to me for xmas one year by my dad. Then moved on to other Zenith cameras(cant remember the model numbers) before getting a secondhand Yashica FX3super. Photography at that time was merely a means of recording catches whilst fishing, no nature shots or anything like that.
Moved onto an Olympus OM10 then a Canon EOS1000f (which is still in the cupboard somewhere) and an EOS500.
First digicam was a Canon G2, again bought for fishing shots, but when i packed in fishing and began wildlife photography I moved onto a Fuji S5000, then onto my current Panasonic fz20.Still happy with the Panasonic, so havent succumbed to buying a DSLR yet, but time will tell.
