| | | I Took THE Plunge Well tonight I took the plunge and eventually got round to cleaning my sensor, which had a nasty spot that was beginning to annoy me.
I bought the Delkin Devices Sensor Scope Kit, which comprises - 1 sensor scope - giving 5 times magnification of your sensor, so that you can check whether it really is dirty.
- 1 Sensor vac, with battery pack, which I have to say i did not find to be that usefull - after vacuuming I appeared to have more gunk on my sensor.
- 1 Sensor Solution Bottle
- 24 sensor Wands
All of which come in a nice carry case.
So, in summary, I am very pleased with the results - A VERY clean sensor.
It was a tad nerve racking, but with a little care it seems to me that its nothing to worry about

| | | Re: I Took THE Plunge Yep, I think I'm going to have to do this at some point. I've noticed a few spots despite the 400D's dust removal system, but I've done a lot of lens changes lately (extension tubes, converters, macro, telephoto etc) so it may have been far worse if I didn't have the dust removal system.
I'm pleased to hear you sensor has cleaned up nicely. It does sound a bit scary though....

I must admit I keep thinking about doing mine but so far I've been able to get away with blasting it with a rocket blower! |

If that doesn't clear it then I use Eclipse fluid and pec pads. After the first time you wonder what all the fuss was about lol |

I like the rocket blower a lot but the marks on mine almost looked like fluid rather than dust and the big mark would not budge. I wondered if the rocket blower had put the mark there in the first place?

BTW I do not recommend sneezing during the senosr cleaning it took me forever to clean the oooo off the sensor lol |

| | | Re: I Took THE Plunge This is something that I've been thinking on too and have so far chickened out. I dont have any really bad spots atm though.
What would be great is a visual guide for the bulk camera type that people are using Canon / Nikons that show exactly where you clean and how. I still have a hangups about managing to clean the wrong bit and damaging it. I assume once the mirror is locked up the rectangle you see is the actual sensor itself and is what you are looking to use the pec pads or similar on.
Does anyone know of a decent visual guide?

You are right in that the blowers hould be primed a few times to get rid of any moisture or dust from it. I think I fell fowl of the moisture problem.

Ta! | The unit I bought came with a fantastic guide and a great magnifier, so that you can see all of the problem spots on the sensor. It gave 5X magnification. IMO it did a really good job

| | | Re: I Took THE Plunge how much was it mate and where from ? , as I think i'm going to have to break the habit of a life time and clean mine as I took some sunsets on f22 on skye and there is startling ammount of cack showing up on the sensor - and I just dont have time to run down to fixation as I normally do
