optical zoom has no effect on resolution, which is why it is preferred to digital zoom.

but one thing you do need to bear in mind using high end optical zoom is that camera shake and wobble will also be magnified and thus you may find you need to use a tripod or at least rest the camera on something at x10 where you could easily handhold at x2

Another good thread on the FZ Range i have the 30 and am still really struggling with it...i keep using my ancient point and shoot digital instead as it can do great macro shots.

I guess im going to have to spend another hundred quid for the zoom and the macro add ons after all.
