| | | St Georges are up in Dorset Hi there
Well my keen eyed husband found our first St Georges Mushrooms today. We think they are just emerging. We also found some wild chives so I'm having wild chives and St Georges Mushrooms for lunch. Nice! |

Nice! | Well done Sarah Longshaw's St Georges are always late It's quite often May before they appear.

They do seem rather early this year here too, but the weather conditions have been wonderful and I think thats teased them out early. Unfortunately I didn't make a note in my journal of the exact date they came out in previous years, but I'm sure it was a week or so into April.
On my patch April/May 2004 was an excellent year for St Georges with lots of rings. 2005 and 2006 didn't yield as many St Georges, but the weather conditions are probaby to blame for that. 2004 was wet and chilly and 2005 was too dry according to my notes; although my notes are a bit hit and miss sometimes.
I should make more thorough notes because its very interesting looking back when I'm after a particular mushroom or even if I want to know when the swifts arrived last year.
I hope your patch has a good yield this year John and that the weather conditions stay favourable.
Cheers

Sarah | That's quite interesting re the years Sarah. At a common Longshaw area, there were a few in 2004, many in 2005 and 2006 was terrible! Sometimes it doesn't quite add up
I'll let you know how it goes this season ... finger crossed
Cheers - John |

Since my post on 26 March we haven't had anymore luck finding St Georges . I think that must be due to the prolonged period of dry weather. Now the heavens are opening though and I'm wondering whether there's still hope that the St Georges will pop up?

| | | Re: St Georges are up in Dorset snap, they have just appeared here.
very small but it's a start. Certain they are two weeks later than last year,
obviously waiting for a drink.

Good to see you Sarah, does this sudden surge of mushies mean you'll be more active on WAB?
Hopefully the weather this year will grant everyone a good haul of Ceps! |
