| | | Bright Red Fungi I took this photo today in a wooded area along the shore of Lough Neagh, N.Ireland. It was the only fungi I spotted in the area and it was only growing in one area on two fallen branches which were also covered in moss. They ranged from 1.5 to 4cm in diameter.
I hope someone can provide an id.
Thanks John. |

| | | Re: Bright Red Fungi Hi Claire.
I think they are one & the same.
In Roger Phillips' old book it is S. Coccinea & in his new one it is S. autriaca.
It is confusing as usually they put the old names after the new with 'syn' in front. |

| | | Re: Bright Red Fungi Definately Scarlet Elfcup - Sarcoscypha austriaca.
The Scarlet Elfcup has in the past been referred to as Sarcoscypha coccinea which is now known to be a very similar but rare species.
