| | | Small supple hairy bracket Found on what I think was a rotting Silver Birch branch of about 3cm dia.
This small bracket was growing out of the ends and sides in two or three places. The larger clump with the brown velvety top was a couple of cm across. I think the smaller body (the bottom three photos) is the same fungus but I may be mistaken.
I appreciate it may be at too early a stage to identify. I've been through all of my books and trawled the Web but haven't had any success getting an i.d.
Any help would be much appreciated.
The next three images are of the smaller fruiting body.
Thanks

maybe velvet tooth, Hydnellum spongiosipes?
But I'll leave it to the experts!
Cheers
Ken

I did consider that but I thought the underside was more like long pores than spines. I also looked at Grifolas, Postia etc. but without success.

| | | Re: Small supple hairy bracket This is a poroid fungus, looking like Trametes again, but this time I'm wondering if it could be T.pubescens ?

after your suggestion I noticed the "zoning" on the brown surface. could it even be a deformed T. versicolor?

| | | Re: Small supple hairy bracket I don't think T.versicolor has pores this big - but I could be wrong. T.pubescens also has zones but are not clear cut as in T.versicolor.
But the overall pale colour is a better match for T.pubescens and just look at that pubescent upper surface !

Dave | Aha ... now if you had mentioned the bracket had a jelly/merulioid like consistancy ... well I might just have come to the same conclusion.
But just by going on what the photo shows I would have thought T.pubescens was a realistic assumption.

| | | Re: Small supple hairy bracket I always appreciate your input Neil and your readiness to help with an i.d.
I wasn't really jelly-like more rubbery I would say.
