| | | Green Russula but which one ? Going through photos again and found this, the closest I can get visually is either R. grisea, R.cyanoxantha or R. aeruginea. I suspect without further evidence it is not possible to ID but anyone fancy their best guess !!
Found under beech and only a single fungus, photos taken in early November |

I suspect that you won't find someone who gives you a definite ID to that.
At least I would say that is is a Griseinae, despite the late date of fruiting. Usually the Griseinae are all species of early summer.
It is not R. cyanoxantha becuase of the colours, it is not R. grisea because of colour, size and missing pinkish hues in damaged places and it is not aeruginea due to the colours.
If I should do a hazardous guess, I would opt for either R. parazurea (though beech would be an unusual host), R. ionochlora (though colours are not typical) or the newly described R. plumbeobrunnea (which is hardly distinguishable from R. parazurea IMHO).
best regards,
Andreas

As you expected no one else has attempted to ID this one but thanks for your best efforts, having viewed numerous images of R.parazurea and R. ionochlora I can see the problem you have. This will have to go down as R. species ....
thanks again

best regards,
Andreas | I feel it is time somebody praised Andreas's grasp of the English language. I was very poor at English in school, but to me, what Andreas has written above is flawless and he even understands these quirky text things like IMHO which I am only just beginning to learn myself !
So, very well done Andreas and thanks for all your valuable time and experience you give to the WAB fungi forum. :congratulations :
Neil.
Have I embarrassed you ? Too bad This is just something I felt needed saying because the way you have mastered the English language puts most of us to shame. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
