| | | Today's "what is it" complete with PHOTOS ! Having trouble with the ID of the attached, the closest I can get is possibly a Pholiota species but could be way off. Growing out of base of beech trunk
Photos taken in late December, thanks in advance for any help |

looks rather like a Gymnopilus (junonius?) then a Pholiota to me.
But not much characters to see on the fotos ....

Your partial / unconfirmed ID is what I thought of first but was not sure but having viewed a few images of G. junonius I believe you are right, I really must improve my information gathering merely taking a photo is clearly not enough to ID fungi with any degree of accuracy....... Once again thanks for your helpful input
