| | | Possibly Phlebia Popping my head above the parapet again, do you think this could be a Phlebia and if so possibly P. rufa or P. radiata? Sorry for the poor quality of the images.
Found on a rotting fallen branch of unknown species, Bircham Valley Local NR, Plymouth.
Thanks for any help,
Phil

Phil | Gonna be tricky this methinks ! Try Googling images of Hyphoderma radula and see what you think, alternatively see what you think of Cerocorticium molare.
The photos are not quite sharp enough to decide, and I suspect at the end of the day a microscope will be needed.

| | | Re: Possibly Phlebia Having the branch in front of me and being able to compare it with Google Images proved really helpful. This is the best match I found to my fungus. Cerocorticum murale MycoDB : Fiche de Cerocorticium molare
The spines of the image agree closely to the shape, relative dimensions and colour, and blunt tips, of my Plymouth fungus. The colour of the spines, orangey brown and cream is a very good match as is number of spines per unit area. The border seems to agree. Looks good to me as far as my eye can tell.
Thanks very much, Neill. I've learned a lot today
Phil

Neil. | Hi Pleb, I think Neil is being quite sensible here...he's mentioned two of the half-dozen or so species that I would want to compare it to ( Basidioradulum radula and Radulomyces molaris being the up-to-date names) but I would want to attack this with a microscope before giving it an ID.
Cheers,
Nick

| | | Re: Possibly Phlebia I do realise now that, without a microscope, there is often going to be a lot of uncertainty with id's. But at least now I know the names of the likely candidates which is a step along the learning curve.
Thanks for your helpful comments.
Phil
