| | | Unidentified fungi found on coastal grassland Hello everyone,
I found these fungi on some boggy coastal grassland in Essex in around october/ early november and was wondering if anyone had any ideas? they were about 100mm diameter.
Thanks, Hannah |

Are you certain these were 'about 100mm in diameter' ?
These could be a type of Naucoria that would grow from very damp debris with Alder or Willow trees, but they would never be near 100mm in diameter.

They were quite large, although 100mm was just an estimate as regrettably i didn't measure them at the time. They may have been smaller maybe around 70mm although again that's just an estimate, sorry for that. Thanks for the quick response,

| | | Re: Unidentified fungi found on coastal grassland If it was just coastal grassland and no trees nearby, I can rule out Naucoria anyway.
Had any trees been removed recently ? I'm curious as to why there is this bare patch on the grassland.

I have found Tubaria furfaracea growing to around 80mm and looking very similar, so I think it is more likely to be some sort of Tubaria

Peter | T.furfuracea was my first and most obvious thought, but if you have found these up to 80mm, then I guess that is what these must be.

| | | Re: Unidentified fungi found on coastal grassland Brilliant, thanks!
The ground was bare as I found the fungi on an embankment with a pathway on top and the bank was muddy in places. The only trees present were a few oaks that were quite a large distance away.
Thank you both for your help!
