| | | A wee purple one for ID please These photos taken on the 1st of Jan on Harpenden Common. A good start for the new year for me as it was my first 'purple' spot.
I found 3, though there might have been more, each in their own space but near to each other. All, from immature to old no more than 20mm diameter, under trees, most of which were oak, but not amongst leaf litter. The ground looked quite dry with only a bit of moss around. The gills were snow white.
Are they stunted somethings? Might be a Russula ...... |

| | | Re: A wee purple one for ID please There are simply too many red capped Russula spp. to ponder a guess at this one (or two, three). Also they vary so much between the same species.
Having said that, I'm going for Russula ... damm, run out of ink.
