A BELATED HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ANDREAS !!
Wood Wanderer,
I see you are going to settle for
R.sardonia - more as a 'default' suggestion, but in mycology circles, things are not done like this. Who knows, one day you could become so good, you may be asked to become your county fungus recorder - in which case you will no doubt want to add all your own records, including maybe those dating back to when you were not very experienced.
There is no certainty over this species, so all you can do is call it a
Russula sp. possibly
sardonia.
But I should add, Andreas (Mollisia) is a very experienced mycologist from Jena in the former east Germany and I am sure he knows his Russula species better than anybody here on WAB, so if Andreas feels this is
Russula queletii he is probably correct, but it is still not confirmed.
So in my opinion, it is best for you to record this (for your own records) as possibly
R.queletii
Neil.
