Deconica and Weraroa

I stumbled across Noordeloos' Psilocybe key today only to find that many that were in Psilocybe are now in Deconica. The last time I looked at that very key they were still called Psilocybe ...

Though some have already made the switch on WAB. I did a quick search to see whether the name change had already been discussed here - it hadn't as such, just mentioned once in passing in 2008, by Mykonik.

And I followed up a link about the group around Psilocybe semilanceata to find that there might be changes there too .... interesting article.

I wonder when the list of fungi that are under current legislation will be updated ... Though more importantly they could do with removing from the list those that do not actually have hallucogenic chemicals in them.

This quote from the Mykoweb article says it all:

Sadly, one of my favourites, Melanotus horizontalis is there as Deconica horizontalis. Awwhhh.
No wonder we all get confused.
Taxonomy? Bah humbug. A necessary evil?

It isn't so bad if we can easily convert the old names to the new. My brain is somewhat resistant to converting names or learning new ones but the database that I use does some of it for me. I've just checked it and it converts most of Deconica back to Psilocybe though However I may not have the most up-to-date version .. it didn't seem that long ago that I uploaded the new list but thinking about it, that may well be two years ago.

Now I need to remember where I can get the current list from, and how to install it ...
