Usually, the only Clitocybe species Lepista flaccida can be confused with is C.gibba
My view is that these are stunted C.geotropa but these can only be guesses.

Is this something others have observed?
cheers,

I'm aware one or the other does, but have never checked which one, but have always assumed it to be L.flaccida, rather than C.gibba.

| | | Re: Unidentifed fungus Here are some recent C. geotropa for comparison and I think its eminently possible thats what we have here.
Cheers
Pete
(BTW I think Andreas names some Lepista sp as Clitocybe in his recent field guide?)

| | | Re: Unidentifed fungus My reasoning for not mentioning C geotropa was my estimation of the size. Looking at the leaves I thought the caps were may be only 5cm ish which would make geotropa unlikely.
I would also agree with Nick that L flaccida is usually a richer colour than these.

| | | Re: Unidentifed fungus ... and hence of my use of the word 'stunted' as the stem visible seems to be infected. So me is sticking with C.geotropa.
