| | | Fungi found in The Faroe Islands July 2011 Being half Faroese I am particularly interested in the rich and diverse wildlife surrounding me whenever I visit these beautiful Islands. I noticed on my recent trip (late July) that fungi were abundant.
I have made it clear when uploading my images that these are non-native species. However I think they may be of interest to this forum, as there may be some crossover. Especially with the fungi of North Scotland, Shetland and the Orkneys where the climate and landscape are not too dissimilar.
The images were taken while out hiking and I understand that some of these may be lacking in information. Most of the images are just of the cap/stem and may not show the gills. Any help with identification would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks Group 1 (found in a pine wood on the Southermost Island of Suðuroy)

| | | Re: Fungi found in The Faroe Islands July 2011 I just realised I think image number 3 may have been photographed growing from a heap of manure in open pasture land and not in a pine wood! |

| | | Re: Fungi found in The Faroe Islands July 2011 I must say Its a little disappointing not to have any replys. I'm not particularly great with the images and it took me a while to get this post together. I know the pictures are not great, but some of these must be familiar to someone ?
I know that 10 - 13 are all waxcaps.
I also have suggestions from the Wild About The World Forum for number 14 as Psathyrella marcescibilis
And number 16 as Panaeolus semiovatus - Egghead Mottlegill
I understand that it may not be possible to give a definative ID on any of these, but if anyone could point me in the right direction, or even just reply to say that it is not possible to ID these as the information is lacking then that would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks. |

I think you just overwhelmed everyone with your long list.
As you say and for future reference the more information that is available the better and more reliable response you are liable to get. What is important is a photo of the cap the gills/pores/spines and their attachment to the stem with any ring and the base of the stem. On top of that the substrate and nearby trees helps as does an indication of the size and any unusual aroma.
Right from what you have given I will start the ball rolling.
No 2 Lactarius
No 4 Lactarius probably rufus
No 5 Lactarius
No 7 Mycena
No 8 & 9 Inocybe
14-16 Panaeolus
No 19 Suillus grevillei
Not a great deal of help but a start.

| | | Re: Fungi found in The Faroe Islands July 2011 And 10, 11, 12, & 13, are species of Hygrocybe (Waxcaps), But not enough details (for me) to suggest individual species.

Mike. |

Sorry Steve - I hadn't noticed that you had already mentioned that.

| | | Re: Fungi found in The Faroe Islands July 2011 Hi Steve,
Sorry for the late replies - I was waiting for others to the bulk of the work
1- Possibly Cortinarius
Agree with Mal that 14 is more likely to be Panaeolus than Psathyrella
I wouldn't rule out Conocybe for 16
Cheers,
Nick

| | | Re: Fungi found in The Faroe Islands July 2011 17 is possibly an Entoloma, particularly when seen with the photograph next to it when the link to the full sized photo is clicked.
20 might be Entoloma sericellum, but that is a real stab in the dark . It might be all sorts of other things too ... now if there was a gill shot with the colour of the spore print visible then that could confirm or eliminate Entoloma as a possibility.
