Another fungus from my favorite field. One that I have been puzzling over.
Photographed mid-November. It was gone a week later.
Location: Wensleydale, North Yorks. Short but thick vegitation -grass/moss/rock rose/thistle etc
A small cluster.
H - 4.5cm. D - 2cm
Cap: Round headed. Very slight umbo - very slightly darker than rest of cap.
Dark brown. Striate around edge.
Stipe. Same colour as cap. Brittle breaks easily. Hollow at the top.
Gills. Brown. Slightly lighter, richer brown than cap. Widely spaced. Some short. Not forked. Adnexed (I think - I find this bit difficult).
Smell. Very strong old mushroom
Spore print - Brown (Jordan 28-milky coffee)
I've tried keying it and got a bit lost towards the end, but chasing the options through the books I came up with Psathyrella sp.
P. bibellis seems a better fit than the others. (but I could have taken a wrong turning somewhere at the end of the key)

Any help appreciated.
Christine
