| | | Help needed to id fungus for insecure beginner Hi everyone,
Would I be right in thinking that this fungus is Fomes fomentarius? It was growing on a fallen, dead tree trunk in the sheltered Plym Valley near Plymouth. I forgot to take measurements but it was hard and solid and difficult to cut. Thanks for any help.

It certainly looks like it to me - the tree seems to be Birch and that would be right too.

Cheers,

| | | Re: Help needed to id fungus for insecure beginner Neil,
The storm is sure to bring a few trees down and then you will have a chance to look at lichens (and fungi too?) that normally live in the canopy
Found lots of interesting fungi this afternoon. I'll try and id them myself first and then if (when ) I get stuck I will get back to you.
Batten down your hatches,
phil
