unidentified bracket on tree stump

Hi All. Please could you help identify this large bracket with fibrous surface. Growing on tree stump among pines but not sure of host. Very pungent. (Not particularly pleasant). Photographed in Cumbria in September.

I reckon you probably have there an old Polyporus squamosus.

I suspect that is because it's clearly old and starting to rot; I wouldn't recommend sniffing fungi at that stage - you're not going to get anything significant

Many thanks both for the info.
I couldn't actually get that close to the specimen to sniff - but the smell was apparent from some distance.
