| | | A possible Hypholoma spp?
Back with renewed confidence. Could this be Hypholoma spp? It's on a wound in a horse chestnut tree trunk. Found 11/12. |

I think it is more likely to be Flammulina velutipes, especialy the time of year. It is fruiting everywhere at the moment. The easy way to check is to look for the dark velvety base to the stem. This gives it its common name 'Velvet Shank'

| | | Re: A possible Hypholoma spp? Peter/Chris: Thanks. I do seem to be having problems with velvet shank - I've just had a lengthy correspondence on the same spp. It didn't seem to have the velvety stem, but maybe that is part of the aging process? | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
