| | | possible Plicatura Crispa Hello everyone, Im hoping you can save me a trip back to pick a sample of these as it must have dropped out of the bottom of my basket and I didn't realise till I got home, anyway - Growing on Hazel, approx. 1-2cm, thin ,leathery, fold like gills (similar to cantherellus tubaeformis) no real smell.
I remember this was one of Scottish Fungi's Fungi of the month a while back so I remembered it from there, it certainly looks like Plicatura (Plicaturopsis ?) Crispa, is there anything else I should be looking at as it is fairly rare with no records on the NBN GATEWAY from the West coast of Scotland.
Any help much appreciated
Thanks Robert |

| | | Re: possible Plicatura Crispa Hello,
no need to go back for that, it is Plicatura crispa for sure.
The species is expanding drastically since appr. 20 years, after a long periode of decline since beginning of the 20th century. It now has re-gained its former area and is expanding still. Not only to new areas where it has not been recorder former, but also to new hosts. It used to grow on beech (hence the German name "Buchen-Adernzähling"), but is now on nearly every wooden substrate. Corylus and Alnus are perhaps the main hosts now.
best regards,
Andreas

| | | Re: possible Plicatura Crispa Many thanks Andreas and John after rereading the Scottish Fungi discription they were also saying it was not as rare as first thought.
Best wishes

| | | Re: possible Plicatura Crispa I have recorded this twice in Suffolk too.
With this new publicity, I expect a lot more records will come in.

Mal | looking forward to all these records . . . something I've never (knowingly ) seen - fascinating distribution pattern: NBN Gateway: Plicatura crispa grid map - not very often one finds Yorkshire as the southernmost county; must keep my eyes open for these "larger" fungi
Chris
