| | | Spotted today Was just riding my bike along the towpath and spotted two slightly furtive looking Eastern European men on the otherside. They were bent over and holding a carrier bag.
What are they doing, I thought? Drugs? Picking up dog mess? Then I saw them place a large clump of fungi into the bag. There looked to about 30-40 fruiting bodies in the clump. Looked like sulphur tuft, though I couldn't be sure from my distance. |

| | | Re: Spotted today A really scary detail of most of these "gatherers" are that they just gather everything and a team leader sorts ot the wheat from the chaff back at base.
i once witnessed a team go through epping in a line trashing all in thier wake kicking over fungi they didnt want and bagging the ones they did, I wanted to cry.

| | | Re: Spotted today Wouldn't it be great if there was a 'HOT LINE' we could simply ring and a whole load of Vigilante Mycologists (there's a new word !) come out and confront these thieving vandals and force them to retrace their steps and dispose of the fungi as they go.
Second best would be to go to the car park and let the air out of their tyres.

| | | Re: Spotted today I was told once that the French come over and take lots of fungi from this country, but I have never seen anyone wearing a Beret carrying a basket or riding a bike. |

Btw Neil, I'm happy to apply for the Norfolk contingency of Vigilante Mycologists. |

Jeremy | Just for the record, and those reading this post who aren't familiar with The BBC presenter Jeremy Clarkson: the above "Joke" refers to his comments when asked "what should be done about the public sector workers that go on strike over reductions their pensions". That was his reply.
I, in no way, advocate the shooting of people (of any nationality) bending over with carrier bags, either in front of their families or otherwise.
and I'm Dave not Jeremy

They are right of course. |

When you are out collecting you should talk loudly to yourself in English. There's less risk then of a "friendly fire" incident from the Vigilante Mycologists
