| | | two corals or something else? Morning all
I have to post these and ask for help with identification because although I've looked in the Phillips - thinking this might be easy, huh - I can't decide which they are.
The photos on the book aren't quite close enough to determine properly, so I'm hoping someone will be able to tell me what I have here.
My closest guesses would have been beige or upright corals.

The first has a definite look of Clavulina coralloides (= C.cristata).
The second one I'm struggling to find something looking quite the same.
Regards,
Mike. |

the first one is Artomyces pyxidata, the second one is a Ramaria (may be stricta).
best regards,
Andreas

| | | Re: two corals or something else? Thank you for your suggestion, Mike and with Andreas' subsequent identifications, I've discovered that the book I have is totally inadequate for the task in hand.
Andreas, I had to look Artomyces pyxidata up online because the Phillips doesn't mention it - and discovered that it can also be termed "Clavicorona Pyxidata." Thank you - because I'd never have found it otherwise.
As for the Ramaria stricta, the book says it's "uncommon" (in the UK, of course). I'm just pleased my wild "upright coral" guess wasn't too far off the mark.
Thank you to both.

I'd glanced at the photo, saw what looked like multi pointed tips ,and my limited experience shouted Clavulina coralloides to me.
It was only after reading Andreas's post that I looked (properly this time) at the photo, and yes indeed - there are the depressed tops to the stems, with the typical "crown like" points all round the circumference. - All suggesting Artomyces pyxidata.
Good job some folks are on the ball!!

Mike. |
