| | | Is this a Cortinarius Hi
I found this today. On the edge of woodland by a roadside in the verge. Cap around 4cm. Cap/stipe/gills all yellow with a slight greeness to it. And I am taking a spore print overnight!
Can anyone help with a suggestion.
Many thanks. |

Does it smell of coal gas?
It has the look of Tricholoma sulfureum.
Regards,
Mike. |

| | | Re: Is this a Cortinarius This time I have kept a sample!
I'll have a sniff when the spore print is complete
Coal Gas - you say. I'm still trying to work out what a Pelagonium is!!
Only kidding - I grew up inhaling the sweet smell of coal gas!

You have just suggested an ID for one of the fungi in photos I have just posted (the thread below this one), but did you not think my yellow one looked like a younger version of yours?
I didn't smell it unfortunately as being new to this game, I have only just learned how important this is.
I hope you can confirm Lancashire Lad's ID 'cause I'll grab this for my own.
Thanks both. |

| | | Re: Is this a Cortinarius Thanks Mike,
yes it does smell of coal gas and the spores were white. Tricholoma sulfureum - The Sulphur Knight - it is.
Hi alindsay
I must say I haven't come across the "Knights" before so I can't tell if your's looks like a younger version. Mine was a solid sulphur yellow colour inside and out if that helps.
