| | | 1 grassland fungus for identification Grassland sandy soils, Northampton, 22/11/2011. Cap: 4 cm stipe: 4.5cm. Not getting a heck of a lot from a spore print but looks purply/brown but not enough yet on the paper to be certain. Maybe a Stopharia sp.? Very viscid cap, can't smell anything. I am in the right genus? Thanks.

| | | Re: 1 grassland fungus for identification Definitely one of the 'blue' species of Stropharia, but I'm struggling to say which one - one has a taste of pepper - so if it's not too late ...

Thanks for that link Peter.

Neil. | I guess people just perceive smell differently as they do sound... I have no scientific reference though to back that up mind you!

| | | Re: 1 grassland fungus for identification Every time I go into BHS for my weekly fry-up, I always 'take' a few extra pepper portions (those in the little packets) and it was one of these I just tore open and emptied into my palm and I could smell nought.
So perhaps it refers to freshly ground pepper.
