I'm not quite sure what you mean by the "kick it over and have a look brigade" - do you mean 'put your foot on it brigade' or 'collect the whole lot' brigade ?

Hello Neil. I must admit I've been innocently 'lurking' as they say, on WAB but without a great deal of time to get out and about as I work offshore in the main as a fisheries scientist/surveyor, I've not had too much I can contribute to the site.
I'll try and post up some pics of some recent mushroom forays including a couple of interesting New Forest finds.
Hope I did'nt cause offence as as that wasn't my intention it's just that I've seen a couple of fairly obscure woods mentioned specifically on 'the web' in the last month or so (not on this site I hasten to add) and the result has been a almost 100% increase in "kicked over/squashed and looked at" fungi in one and almost nothing apart from sliced stems in the otherwise prolific other. Both are within easy reach of North London.
I've been at one this afternoon and it seems to now be well on the Ray Mears watching, weekend wildman map.
I appreciate your initial mention of the area was vague. I know the areas of heath your talking about as I grew up in and around that part of Suffolk but your right I could'nt pin point the exact one but might be able to have three good guesses which might be enough for the more narrow minded greedy types you mention...
Anyways, do I take it you undertake Fungi surveys on a county recorder type level? If so my friends estate that I mentioned in my last post has quite large areas of undisturbed grounds and pasture grasslands that have quite a number of 'mini' species that might be interesting to identify. if it's something that might interest you please drop me a line.
Cheers
Dan
