| | Unknown Bolete (help please) These mature fruits were found growing beside Betual pendula (Silver Birch) and Pinus sylvestris? (Scotts Pine /maybe?) in the same location. Both the flesh and pores of the fruits were lemon/yellow, with little sign of discolouration in any older wounded fruits.
same fruit photographed in afternoon sunlight
Ok. The yellow flesh (or rather absence of white flesh) rules out any sub-species of Boletus edulis / Cep, The absence of any discolouration when handled eliminates Xerocomus badius / Bay Bolete ,, and the Boletus pinophilus / Pine Bolete is listed as "Rare or absent in Great Britain" [Svrcek 1996]
We've had several different books out all afternoon, googled image search the lot,, and we are still none the wiser .
Many thanks in advance

Svrecek indicates , Suillus luteus ; "Flesh is white." so does wikipedia.. lol
The flesh on these fruits were yellow/lemon, almost the same colour as the pores, perhaps just a shade darker. We will go back and explore more
Many thanks

You can be forgiven for making that suggestion when the two photos show the pores as two totally different colours but the ring for S luteus is always thick and often almost purple underneath. The ring for S grevillei is pale yellow and often disappears.
S luteus.

Chris | Thanks Chris. , and everyone for the call Suillus luteus / Slippery Jack. The first fresh fruit sliced today did display white flesh.
The older fruits with a higher water content had yellow flesh the same colour as the pores. The caps of all the fruits were like snail-trails (slime) to the touch , with a thick layer of mucus covering the whole cap.
Many thanks everyone
